The Merten Catalog
While the Merten line of figures does not have the realism and "panache" of the Elastolins, they occupy a special place in my heart because they were the toy knights I played with as a child. I always thought #359 on horse #222 was the nicest, so he was the King.
Currently, I am scanning in only the Knights and Landsknechts. I intend to include the Bedouins, American Civil War, Plains Indians, Cowboys, Mexicans and modern era troops, along with the 6cm (60 mm) versions of the above. If I get ambitious I'll also scan the animals sections.
The knights and landknechts, sadly, only came in 4cm.
It is worth of note that Merten actually had a very limited number of poses of their knights, and varied them with the addition of different weapons and capes.
The classification system is my own, i.e. "knights version 2 foot" and "knights version 2a foot" for a variant series of figures. Those pages marked as "original version" are those that I know to have been available in the mid-1950s. All of the Landsknecht figures were available then too.
Many of the weapons of the Merten figures were simply glued into their hands and are quite fragile. This means that in "played with" figures they tend to go missing. I would LOVE to find some spares!
I should mention that, while I have optimized the scanned catalog pages as much as possible, they are fairly large, averaging 100K, and about 800px wide or so. This means that they are larger than the actual catalog pages, for ease of figure identification.
