The Medieval War Game

I started assembling and painting my medieval wargame way back in the early 1960s, and quickly discovered that, while the actual playing of the game was fun, the most fun was in building the game itself.

The 5000+ pieces are entirely 25mm cast lead and lead-alloy, with plastic, wood and what-not for the scenery, and I have done my best to keep it as historically accurate as possible, tho much of the individual heraldry might be recognized by older members of a certain big medieval reenactment.

Led by the Templars, the knights advance over the
bridge by the village (MiniFigs, Hinchcliffe and Scruby)

Scenery is scratch built or vacuformed, and the siege engines and gonnes are either scratch built, cast lead, or 40 mm Elastolin, which works well with 25 mm figures. One of the castles is Elastolin, the other is an extensively re-worked Ideal Toys castle. The "city walls" or "outer curtain" walls are plastic models, custom reworked for authenticity.

And if you look inside the peasant's huts, you might find some entertaining things going on inside!

Many of the figures are custom conversions, and almost every major maker of 25 mm medievals since 1960 is represented:

FIGURES         EQUIPMENT AND SCENERY

Airfix (recast)
Bellona
Citadel
Custom Cast
Elastolin
Games Workshop

Greenwood & Ball
Hinchcliffe
Heritage
Hinton-Hunt

Timpo

These days I don't have the time to play the game much, but when I finally retire I intend to play until I keel over!
