Appraisals

Please don't e-mail me asking for an appraisal on your toy soldiers. Values vary WILDLY on them, and without a good picture I could not even begin to guess. I will tell you that the following makers seem to be at the top of the value heap at the time of this writing: Wm. Britains Guards
  • Selwyn in original paint (lead)
  • Courtenay in original paint (lead)
  • Ping in original paint (lead)
  • Elastolin (composition)
  • Lineol (composition)
  • Wm. Britains (lead)
  • Heyde (lead)
  • Stadden in factory paint (lead)
  • Manoil (lead)
  • Barclay (lead)
  • Johillco (lead)

Next in the pecking order would probably be:

  • Knights Castle (Courtenay copies)
  • SAE (lead)
  • Merten (plastic)
  • Starlux (plastic)
  • Ericksson (lead)
  • Bussler (lead)
  • Timpo (plastic)
  • Cherlea (lead)
  • Herald (plastic)
  • Marx (plastic)

Please be advised that the above classifications are arbitrary and reflect my personal prejudices, and could change at any minute depending on current collector demand.

Your best bet would be to read thru the toy soldier listings on E-Bay and see if any like yours are for sale, and take a look at what they are selling for. You should also go thru my links page and see if any of the dealers on the net have something similar.

Some of these makers were made in the Orient at one time or another. Be aware that the Oriental made versions are sometimes not as desired as the originals.
